The making of a Bronze Sculpture
Lost Wax, Bronze casting is a complex, time consuming and highly skilled craft. The making of a sculpture will take on average up to four months or longer.
These factors simply turn a bronze into an investment and a statement. Bronze is the supreme medium for casting sculptures.
Bronzes are here to outlast their makers, and hold their value and appearance for generations after they have been created.
Process
From sculpting the original in clay, making a first mould for casting the original in wax, followed by time consuming, detailed fettling and treeing of the wax sculpture in preparation for the numerous coatings with ceramic shell, the drying process and eventual casting and subsequent patination of the bronze, the preparation of a bronze sculpture is labour intensive and time consuming.
Cold cast bronze is an economically affordable replication of classic bronze.
Classic bronze historically being the superior due to the materials used, its strength, visual impact durability and complexity of the crafting process.
Cold Cast Bronze, normally cast in Resin, is in our sculptures replaced by the more environmentally friendly Jesmonite.
Jesmonite AC100 is a water-based composite material used to make decorative moulded objects. It is safe to use and contains no solvents or VOCs.
With sustainability high on the agenda due to the protection of our global environment, we are, where possible using Jesmonite products for our sculptures instead of Epoxy Resin.
Traditional Marble is very costly and has to be mined in a quarry, processed and shipped. Cultured, or poured marble is a related liquid mix that can be used for repeated casting.
Poured marble is a blend of marble dust and other components, which mixed together to achieve a strong casting material with a translucent marble sheen.
Using a composite of different materials to create “Poured Marble” allows us to create the same sculpture model by using a mould into which the substance is poured and cast from.

All of our sculptures are individually cast and are entirely handcrafted throughout.
